Last week Z and AC went on a 50 mile week long hike with the scouts of our ward. It was a great experience for them both. They both led their group most of the way throughout the week. AC said Z proved to have a lot of endurance and rarely complained. (Wow! Was I proud!!) AC felt very strong and had a lot of stamina for the duration of the hike--until the last day. He felt a sickness coming on early in the day on Friday but didn't say anything for fear of slowing the group down. He continued on for about 6hours feeling sicker by the hour. The group had already decided previously to continue hiking through the night so they could get to their cars and get home earlier than expected. They were apparently too exhausted to set up camp AGAIN for another night. AC started experiencing fever like symptoms and started feeling dilirious. He finally let the group know he could not go any further. He asked for a priesthood blessing and when they asked for his full name, he was so out of it he couldn't even recall it. They had to ask Z for it. They gave him a wonderful blessing promising him that he would make it out with the rest of the group. The minute they finished the blessing, AC said he felt immediate strength. He regained his stamina and was able to help the group out of the woods in the dark. Upon arriving at the cars, he immediately was overcome by all the symptoms again-feeling horribly sick to his stomach, weak, dizzy, etc. He said as soon as he walked in our front door he threw up. Apparently the young 12-13 year old boys (as well as some of the adult leaders) were quite touched by seeing the power of the priesthood displayed so strongly. I am so glad that Z was able to witness it and am also grateful that not only my husband is worthy to give priesthood blessings but also to receive them as well.

That is such a great story. We forget sometimes that we DO live in a day of miracles.
Amazing..And what a neat experience for those young men. It makes you realize how LUCKY we truely are. Thank you for sharing that with us.
I got chills reading that! The priesthood is real- and we should be grateful that we have Priesthold holders (and future holders) in our own homes! What a blessing! How is Alan feeling?
Between you and me we could have an entire Quorum!! He is fine now. It has taken him a week to recover though..he has just been extremely tired. i saw your car at the library today. what a good mom!
just seeing the title and pictures made me tear up. and then the story, what an awesome experience (I mean horrible for your hubby, but great for those boys!)
This is why I am glad you got me to blog. I was with you all afternoon and didn't hear this story. I love to read things we don't think to tell eachother. What a great experience for Zach. It's experiences I've had like this, that have kept my testimony through times of weakness and doubt. How great for Zach to be able to draw strength from this experience throughout his life. Thanks for sharing!
I'm glad I pulled up your blog. It gives me some courage considering that Andy, Dave and Doug are now leaving for the Tetons. They will summit at about 9am. It has been raining all day and the lightening and thunder up here (VICTOR)made me nervous to have them on top of the mountain. I know they can do it now.
